Microsoft to Windows Phone MVPs: "You're Fired"

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 04:14 PM

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft...vp-program/9897

"Microsoft is making some big changes to one of its Windows Phone programs that is resulting in some unhappy former advocates. A number of Windows Phone Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) - the volunteer army that has helped Microsoft with its mobile phone charge - are being notified this week that Microsoft is dropping them from its program."

At some point in the future I'll have something eloquent to say about this news, but for now I can only shake my head in dismay. This is simply not the right way to treat people who have volunteered their time to help your customers.

"Wow! MVP Andreas Sjostrom, has was won the IT Consultant of Year Award in Sweden. The judges at IDG awarded Andreas the coveted award for his community and media efforts in supporting Windows Mobile. Andreas has been involved in designing enterprise mobile solutions since 1998."

Not only is Andy a Microsoft MVP, but he is also a former contributing editor at our Pocket PC Thoughts site and a good friend of mine. Andy has helped a number of people over the years with his books, posts, presentations and articles. It is good to see he received some well deserved recognition as Sweden's IT Consultant of the Year. Congrats Andy!

Microsoft MVPs are a highly select group of experts that represents the technical community's best and brightest, and they share a deep commitment to community and a willingness to help others. MVPs represent a broad spectrum of Microsoft product users. They occupy many different professions including accountants, teachers, artists, engineers and technologists. MVPs reside in over 90 countries, represent 30 different languages, and cover more than 90 Microsoft technologies."

In the early hours of yesterday morning, Microsoft awarded a number of people the Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for their contributions to technical communities over the past year. Among the newly-awarded is our own Jon Westfall, whose contributions to the Windows Mobile community here at Pocket PC Thoughts have proven invaluable.

Congratulations on your new status as Windows Mobile MVP, Jon, and congratulations to the other newly-awarded and re-awarded MVPs.
