Telstra Approves March Update for Mozart, Now In the Hands of Microsoft

Posted by Darius Wey in "Windows Phone Mobile Operators" @ 11:30 PM

Telstra may be behind on those Windows Phone 7 updates, but progress is being made with the carrier announcing yesterday that it has approved the March update for the HTC 7 Mozart. Now in the hands of Microsoft, delivery of the update is scheduled for next week. Unfortunately, those of you with the LG Optimus 7Q may have to wait a little while longer. The update is still undergoing testing, and all that Telstra has said with regard to a release date is "May".

February Update Roll-Out Begins for Telstra Customers

Posted by Darius Wey in "Windows Phone Software" @ 03:00 PM

So, without a doubt, the update process for Windows Phone 7 has been anything but fast and fluid for most users. Case in point, Telstra customers in Australia who, only yesterday, started receiving the February update notification on the HTC 7 Mozart and LG Optimus 7Q. Yes, we know what you're thinking -- the February update in April. A whole two months later. But as they say, better late than never. The March update, which delivers copy-and-paste, is supposedly arriving later this month, and when it does, we'll let you know about it. Of course, if you're rocking the recently-released HTC HD7, you already have both updates, so that game they call the waiting game is not yours to be played.

Australia's Telstra Opens Up On Its Windows Phone 7 Update Schedule

Posted by Darius Wey in "Windows Phone Mobile Operators" @ 06:35 PM

By now, you've probably perused the "Where's my phone update?" page from top to bottom. It summarizes the update schedule of most major Windows Phone 7-toting carriers and OEMs. Unfortunately, Australians on the nation's largest carrier, Telstra, are still waiting, not just for this month's copy-and-paste update, but also last month's pre-update update. Thankfully, after being bombarded with questions from its customers and the press, the carrier has finally opened up on where things are at update-wise.

As far as the February update is concerned, you won't have long to wait. The carrier has certified it and Microsoft should deliver it to Telstra-branded HTC 7 Mozart and LG Optimus 7Q devices within the next week. Sometime next month, you can expect the March update to hit said devices. As for the HTC HD7 which hits stores today, it already includes both updates, meaning you can copy-and-paste and load those apps in shorter time from the get-go.

Windows Phone 7 Update Coming Next Month?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 03:39 PM

"Today at the Microsoft Tech days, I heard (from a Samsung guy showcasing the Omnia 7) that the WP7 update should arrive during the first week of March. There's some cell phone show next week (in Germany, I think), where a few NDAs will lapse and announcements will probably be made about new WP7 handsets and the actual features of the WP7 update."

January has come and gone, and there hasn't been an update for our Windows Phone 7 yet. Rumours are pointing to early March as the time the first update will be released. I'm personally disappointed by that. Yes, this is a brand-new platform that's basically four months old at this point, but Microsoft had a key opportunity to show the world that their new update strategy was ready and they could deliver updates to customers without being hindered by their carrier and OEM partners. So far, that hasn't happened yet. The first update may very well be the hardest; carriers and OEMs aren't used to not being in control, so maybe that's a factor in the delay.

Regardless, March is a few weeks away and I sincerely hope Microsoft will deliver the update we've been hearing about for a while now. Even if it doesn't bring earth-shattering changes, it will show that this is a platform that will get updates and not be abandoned like we saw so many times with Windows Mobile phones.
