HTC Touch HD2 Review Roundup

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 06:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/htc-hd2-review/

HTC's Touch HD2 is perhaps the most hotly anticipated handset of the holiday season, which says a lot given the competition. Is it too big? Is Snapdragon all its cracked up to be? Is this (finally) Windows Mobile answer to the iPhone? Read on for the reviews, hands-on, and first impressions:

It's Official: HTC HD2 Coming To The US

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 08:00 PM

http://www.htc.com/us/press.aspx?id...15674&lang=1033

While the grapevine has supplied this tidbit for quite some time now, it's nice to see official confirmation. If you've been living on a desert island for the last couple of months, the HD2 is HTC's latest uber-phone sporting a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4.3" capacitive display, WM6.5, an ultra-slim profile, HTC's latest UI overlay (HTC Sense), and just about everything else under the sun. The big deal about this confirmation is that the models currently shipping in Europe and Asia don't support US 3G bands, which meant the US market would have been left out otherwise. No clues yet on which carrier will take this up, but the HD2 should be available by Spring 2010.

HTC HD2 Unboxing

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 09:00 PM

http://translate.google.com.my/tran...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

Italian site Solopalmari have scored what looks like the very first unboxing video of the when-is-it-going-to-be-in-stock HTC HD2 (original link here, Google-translated version here). What's shown isn't the final packaging, which is a relief - I saw the video first before reading the article, and thought HTC were nuts to have the accessories look like they've just been thrown in the box. Thankfully that's not the case, though I wonder if you can really call this an unboxing video when the "box" isn't what you're going to get at retail. Oh well, enjoy the view.

HTC HD2 Ain't That Big

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/re...stlook-en.shtml

When I first heard about this beast, my initial thought was that it might be just a bit smaller than my Advantage with that massive 4.3" screen. Turns out HTC had a big trick up its sleeve - because capacitive screens (yes, the HD2's got one) doesn't require that much bezel space to fit, the frame is small enough to make the body almost (though not quite) comparable to phones with much smaller screens. The comparison to the iPod touch above is a pretty good example - in fact, in terms of volume, the HD2 is actually slightly smaller than the iPhone 3GS thanks to a thinner profile. My only concern now is, how the heck do you use the hardware buttons at the bottom while using the HD2 with one hand? For more example pics, check mobile-review.com.

HD2's First Official Appearance?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...-o2-uk-catalog/

"We've been furnished with the above page from an O2 in-store catalog detailing the HTC HD2 (aka Leo), which was set for a UK release on October 12 (though we're hearing that may have slipped to the 26th). Interesting that it's pictured with a stock Windows Mobile 6.5 UI instead of TouchFLO 3D."

HD2, the name now popular for the Leo, appears to be on track for O2 UK - including this possible catalog image that's leaked out. Looks good for my friends across the pond to pick one of these up soon, if they so desire.

T-Mobile To Offer HTC Leo As Touch HD2

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...-htc-touch-hd2/

News and leaks about the Touch HD2 nee HTC Leo are now coming in fast and furious. This latest includes (official) confirmation of the name, at least on T-Mobile (sorry folks, Europe only so far). If you want to know when it'll hit the shelves, scuttlebutt from various sources has it that the HD2 will be available by the end of this month from a variety of carriers across Europe and in Australia. Sorry, no pricing info forthcoming just yet, but chances are you're looking at premium positioning with prices to match. Will this come to the US? There's a version with US 3G bands in the works (the HD2 is not a world phone), but nothing confirmed yet.

HD2, HTC Leo, Launches on O2 on October 12

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 07:30 AM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...k-october-12th/

"A trusted tipster with a proven past just gave us the launch day scoop on the hotly anticipated HTC Leo. A Windows Mobile 6.5 handset we recently spied with HD2 branding and a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 800x480 resolution -- a pixel density that should give plenty of room for finger-friendly TouchFlo 3D navigation"

Looks like the Leo, or the HD2, or whatever it wants to call itself, may be showing up in the UK as early as October 12. Those on O2 may want to be aware if they're interested in replacing an aging device. Or just want another one to play with!

UPDATE: And MAN is that thing fast! Engadget reported yesterday that benchmarks are showing it to have about a 300% increase in raw CPU speed over the original HTC Touch HD!

Stalking the Leo? Call it by another name!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 03:30 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/20/...ds-call-it-hd2/

"This new Leo hotness from HTC sure is making the rounds, and we certainly can't get enough of it. Its latest appearance shows the handset from some sexy angles, but also gives us a new tidbit to chew on: the Bluetooth menu identifies the phone as the HD2."

The Leo is one hot little device, and apparently it now has a new moniker all of it's peeps are calling it (Side note: if a peep is short for person, would other devices be deeps? Anyway...). HD2 isn't any shorter, but perhaps it hints to it's eventual role in the HTC Handset lineup?

More HTC Leo Details Emerging

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...estone-awesome/

It looks like the HTC Leo is going to be launched very, very soon (like possibly in a couple of weeks time) with an official online appearance at Telstra Australia. More than that, it also looks like there's a reasonable chance that the Leo will sport a capacitive screen per the video above, courtesy Modaco, despite no official support under WM6.5. There's also this almost 10 minute hands-on video via WMExperts, which unfortunately is private which I couldn't view. But what struck me most was despite the massive 4.3" screen, the Leo isn't as unwieldy as the screen size would suggest. I'm getting intrigued by this device, anybody else willing to bite?

HTC Leo In The Flesh

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 03:00 AM

http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=7674

HTC's latest hush-hush powerhouse is big, but less so than I expected it to be. A massive 4.3" WVGA screen powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera and the usual assortment of radios, the Leo is claimed by some to be the sucessor to the Advantage. The size may be a put off to many, but I'm thinking this is designed more as a combined phone-PMP device for those who want a larger viewing area for their movies. Now that we know it actually exists (at least in prototype form), anybody out there interested?

HTC Leo: Rumours and Specs

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 11:00 PM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...mmm-snapdragon/

"Earlier this week we reported some rumored details of the upcoming HTC Leo and today it looks like things are now getting flushed out a bit. Actually, it looks like the Leo may turn out the be the HTC Firestone we first saw back in January."

HTC Leo is reputed to be a clamshell smartphone, with some serious horsepower under the hood - think Universal replacement. Right now not a whole lot is known about the device, or what it'll look like, but you can get the lowdown on how the story broke from the Boy Genius Report. Rumoured specs include a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4.3" WVGA capacitive screen, WM6.5, all the usual radios (including dual-band HSPA as well as GPS), accelerometer, light and proximity sensors, and a 5MP AF camera with dual LED flash. All I can say is...I want!
