KDDI Announces Mango Phone By Fujitsu Toshiba

Posted by Richard Chao in "Windows Phone News" @ 09:08 AM

http://www.diginfo.tv/2011/07/27/11-0157-r-en.php

"KDDI has announced that it's going to release the Windows Phone IS12T in September. This smartphone, from Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications, runs the Windows Phone 7.5 OS."

It looks like Japan will be first to get a Windows Mango Phone. The Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T is slated to be released in September. It comes packing a 13 megapixel camera with auto-focus, 32GB internal storage, 3.7 inch WVGA screen and Qualcomm's MSM8655 CPU expected to run at 1GHz+. Oh, and it will come in yellow, pink or black and is waterproof.

Windows Phone 7 Coming to Japan Soon

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 06:00 AM

http://nanapho.jp/archives/2011/07/...aunch-in-japan/

Windows Phone will be coming to Japan by the end of the year according to Yasuyuki Higuchi, corporate president of Microsoft Japan. When WP7 launches in Japan, there will be many market-specific applications which will include games, entertainment, shopping, and travel applications. More importantly, the phone will need to support Japanese characters (e.g. Kanji). No hardware launch partners have been announced but it is assumed that Fujitsu will be involved in some fashion.

Google Maps 2.3 Brings Street View to Windows Mobile

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 12:00 PM

"We're excited to announce the availability of Google Maps for mobile version 2.3 with Street View on Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile. Street View was previously released on Google Maps for Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone. Street View lets you access street level imagery to help orient yourself when looking for places, businesses, or getting directions. Say you're going to meet with friends at an unfamiliar restaurant. Now you can search for it in Google Maps for mobile, click on "Street View", and see what the place and surrounding area look like. Similarly, say you need to get to a shop in a part of town you don't know. Find it using your phone, get directions to it, and see how to get there with full-screen panorama images of every step along the way."

Google Maps 2.3 has arrived, but this release is more than just a bunch of bug fixes. It includes walking directions, transit alerts, POI reviews, and Street View support, so you can take the sights of the United States, Australia, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, and Spain with you wherever you go. It's a free download from google.com/gmm.

WILLCOM's Colourful 03 On Display

Vibrant colours are a rarity in the Windows Mobile world. If you're lucky, you may find some multi-coloured HTC Touch devices on the street, but other than that, our devices are mostly shades of grey. Enter WILLCOM. You've heard of them before. They were the folks who delivered the W-ZERO3. Now, they've combined Windows Mobile with hot pink, lime green, and bright gold to deliver the 03. And the specs aren't too shabby. There's a 3" 800 x 480 touchscreen, a touch-sensitive pad that switches between numeric keypad mode and D-pad mode, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a PXA270 processor, 128MB RAM, 256MB of ROM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, infrared, a 2.0-megapixel camera, a TV tuner, and a microSD slot, with Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic to keep it all going. Wait, "Classic"? What's the catch? The 03 takes a W-SIM, which means it doesn't have to rely on the cellular radio support offered in "Professional". Oh, and W-SIM also means you won't be seeing it outside of Japan anytime soon. Ah, shucks. Read more...

Off to the Land of the Rising Sun for a Vacation...Geek Style!

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 10:45 PM

Tomorrow, I’m off to Japan for two weeks for a real, business-free vacation with Ashley (I'll be back in action on April 7th). It’s going to be awesome! I tend not to get excited about vacations until right before they happen, so I’m just starting to get excited. I’m all geeked up, bringing:

  • …the XPS M1330 laptop for photo and video processing (gotta’ have some grunt for processing those raw files)
  • …the Fujitsu P7010D for watching movies on
  • …my Proporta battery for keeping the Fujitsu lasting that 11 hour flight
  • …the Nikon D300 + four lenses (including my new ultra-sharp 24-70 f/2.8) + 32 GB CF card + 3 x 8 GB CF cards
  • …the Canon SD 850 IS (with 8 GB microSD) for snapping casual pics and for videos (damn I wish it did HD videos - I don’t want to bring my Canon HV20)
  • …two Zunes 8’s (one for the wife, one for me)
  • …one pair of Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 EB’s
  • …a TomTom GPS (without maps, just for finding our way back to our starting point GPS coordinates - was going to bring the HP iPAQ GPS, but it crashed and that didn’t make me feel very confident)
  • …iGo Juice with several adaptors, PPC Techs Lil Sync Cable, Lil Sync Mobile USB Power Pack for charging everything
  • My T-Mobile Dash, not to use as a phone, but to look up our travel schedule
  • …a few assorted adaptors and cables
Quick, I don’t leave until tomorrow AM - did I miss anything? ;-)
