HD7 With Early Build of Windows Phone "Tango" for Sale on Facebook: Update - Pulled

Posted by Darren Blade in "Windows Phone Software" @ 07:00 AM

"Interestingly, the other day we saw what was thought to be the first screenshot of Windows Phone "Tango", the next iteration of the OS coming after "Mango". Starting with build 8200 and higher, "Tango" is still a bit of a mystery, seeing as "Mango" hasn't even rolled out yet. Yesterday we saw mention of it as a low-cost option for Microsoft."

Well this was short-lived! No sooner than the news hit it has been pulled. If you are the sort to dance on the edge, you will have to wait a little bit longer before taking "Tango" for a spin. In the meantime, enjoy the refreshing Mango when it lands. The countdown has already begun, and Mango is just around the corner.

T-Mobile Update For HD7

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.wpcentral.com/t-mobile-p...rts+(wpcentral)

"According to AtomicAgeZombie, who tipped us on this, the updates deal with firmware and radio software. The old firmware (2250.09.12001.531) is updated to version 2250.21.30102.531. The old radio version (5.51.09.11a_22.31.50.09U) is updated to the new radio version 5.65.09.25a_22.45.50.21U."

While this is certainly not a major update, T-Mobile HD7 users are reporting an update for firmware and radio software is out and is working. You should be notified automatically about the release, but you can also use your Zune Desktop to check for it.

HTC Eternity Leaked

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.slashgear.com/htc-eterni...phone-30162442/

Call me a pessimist, but the leaked HTC Eternity Windows Phone doesn't excite me very much. The specs sound fantastic: a 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD touchscreen, 8 mega-pixel camera, 1.5GHz processor, 512MB Ram, and 16GB or internal storage. The problem is that these specs sound great for a phone that is out now! Besides the screen, all of the other specs are already available on Android devices, and this will only become more apparent as those devices continue to evolve. Secondly, does anyone actually need a 4.7-inch screen? If you compare the specs to the HD7 (already a large phone) you can see that body of the Eternity has gotten even larger. If this is the best WP7 enthusiasts have to choose from I still may get one come the fall, but my bet is that a Nokia built device will be in my pocket by late this year/early next. What kind of hardware do you want to see in your next Windows Phone?

T-Mobile to Update HD7 Tomorrow?

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 09:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/03/t-mo...pdate-tomorrow/

Rumor has it that T-Mobile USA will begin a roll-out of NoDo tomorrow (March 29th). T-Mo News is behind the rumor, having obtained a screenshot of an internal document that provides the date. After the up-roar that this updating process has caused, it will be good to see this come to an end. Drop in and let us know if you receive the update!

The HD7 Is Coming To AT&T As The HD7S

Posted by Richard Chao in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 09:51 AM

http://www.wireless.att.com/busines...es/htc-hd7s.jsp

"Sign up to receive email when the HTC HD7S-the first HD7 in the U.S. with a Super LCD display-becomes available."

It's always been known that the Samsung Focus was the mover when it comes to AT&T WP7 devices. It outsold the HTC Surround and LG Quantum due to it's bigger screen and thin non-sliding black slab form factor. A form factor that is currently available to T-Mobile USA users in the form of the HD7.

It looks like HTC is hoping to take away some AT&T sales from Samsung by adding a Super LCD to the HD7 and releasing it on AT&T as the HD7S. NoDo will be preinstalled but unfortunately the hardware specs are the familiar 1GHz processor, 16 GB memory and 5MP camera. The HD7S should be available in the coming weeks.

Faceoff: iPhone 4, HTC Desire, HTC HD7

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 06:30 PM

http://www.smartphonegurus.com/foru...sire-v-htc-hd7/

"One evening in the week I was talking to a colleague and he was asking which machine I preferred using between the iPhone 4, the Desire and the HD7. At the moment I'm of course using the HD7, but even using that I tend to lose some of my usual functionality. I therefore decided to put together a basic spreadsheet concerning my uses and clock up which device gets the best score. The scoring is generally a '0' for a missing feature, a '1' for a feature that it has, but for some areas where there is a greater difference than a plain yes or no then a score has been allocated."

Well, it's of course quite subjective, but Daron Brewood, CEO of Smartphone Gurus, has developed a matrix that compares three current smartphones: the iPhone 4, the HTC Desire, and the HTC HD7. What makes this a quite an interesting read is that he compares the devices on a variety of different application usage and/or functionality scenarios. For example, he includes the following in his comparison:

  • multiple Exchange accounts
  • RSS Reader
  • spoken term GPS navigation
  • eBook reader
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • notification system
  • quick camera operation
  • speed dials
  • and many more...

Again, these are his opinions, but it gets right at the hear of the user's total experience (see the article on TXI in an earlier post). A little suspense - you'll need to click over to the article to find his conclusion.

Engadget Video Preview

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 06:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/...-battle-for-wp/

Engadget has provided a great video overview of the Windows Phone 7s coming to the non-US phone market. Among those devices previewed are the Samsung Omnia 7, the HTC HD7, and the HTC Mozart. The Samsung Omnia 7 was praised for it's fantastic screen. The one differentiator of the HTC Mozart that has not been heavily discussed is the xenon flash and 8MP camera. This combination could make the Mozart the phone to get for those interested in replacing their point-and-shoot. Full reviews will be coming soon as the embargo lifts tonight.

T-Mobile USA Introduces HTC HD7

"With the new HTC HD7, customers can access their favorite movies, TV shows, games, music and more on a large 4.3-inch screen."

A funny thing happened on the way to the Windows Phone 7 launch - T-mobile tweeted, just shortly after 9:30, a teaser introduction to the HTC HD7, linking to Facebook. Looking good T-Mo!
