Nyan Cat Apps Available

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.wpcentral.com/nyan-cat-s...rts+(wpcentral)

"The video should say it all. Nyan! seems to run a little smoother and both play that catchy jingle. If you're a fan of Nyan Cat you can find Sugata's Nyan Cat here and Zozo's Nyan! here (both links open Zune) at the Marketplace. Luckily, both apps are free and you download at your own risk."

Nyan Cat fans will be pleased to discover that two free game apps are now available for WP7. Check out the video first, then get playing!

Achievements in a Non-Live Title? TapSplosion 2.0 Brings It.

Posted by Nelson Ocampo in "Windows Phone Software" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.wpcentral.com/tapsplosio...rts+(wpcentral)

"In a surprising approval by Microsoft, TapSplosion 2.0 just became available in the Marketplace. Why surprising? The developer wanted to add a bunch of Achievements to the game but was worried Microsoft may consider that term 'exclusive' for Xbox Live titles--which is not too far fetched--and deny approval."

The surprising part of the approval is the use of the word "Achievements" in the game description, where it reads, "TapSplosioin is the game that the Windows Phone 7 platform has been waiting for, and now it's even better with Achievements!"

There was concern that the use of the term might not be seen as generic. After all, Achievements are normally associated with XBOX LIVE titles. So a customer might expect that these Achievements would show up on XBOX LIVE. But they don't.

I think it's great that there is some sort of achievement system in a 3rd party game. But would you find this confusing?

Bob the Burglar Coming to Windows Phone 7

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Software" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxaMFQEr0bo

"Playmatter and Dreamfever have partnered to create a cute sliding puzzle game. Help Bob the Burglar by sliding rooms around a mansion to create a path from the bumbling burglar to the hidden safe behind the suspicious portrait. Create a path and tab Bob to move across, up, down and diagonally around the house in your search for ill gotten gains. You'll also have to contend with obstacles such as smoke filled corridors and long drops, not to mention the casual pondering of a hapless sleepwalker! Bob the Burglar restricts which tiles can be moved and which direction they can slide in - giving you free control just wouldn't be enough of a challenge ;). The walls hold clues to let you know how each piece will move, whether it's fixed, rotates in place or even which ones need to work together. Once you know what you can work with, its time to get Bobs hand on those family jewels! Robbing the rich has never been so puzzling!"

One thing's for sure: it will be really interesting to see how many Windows Phone 7 games are in the Marketplace by the end of the year. Microsoft has put a lot of effort into wooing developers, especially iPhone developers, so I'm interested to see what their efforts produced.

Get Your Game on with Spinballs

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Software" @ 12:18 PM

http://www.spinballs.com/

"Spinballs is an exciting puzzle game with brilliant graphics, rocking music and great sound effects that introduces an unique gameplay. Seven discs with six coloured balls on each of them make up the playground. Each disc can be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise. Try to connect balls of the same colors by rotating those discs but never forget that time is running!"

Looking for a way to pass some time? This graphically-intense game is one way to do it. I'm always happy when I see game designers put real effort into the user interface and graphics of their game - Spinballs looks great. The game is a mere $3.99 in our MobiHand affiliate store, so if you're interested, grab it before the sale ends!

"Summer's here and it's time for some fun! Whether you're on vacation, or just want something new to play, Astraware(R) has the solution - the Astraware Hot Summer Sale! Starting on 1st August, Astraware is offering 25 games each with at least 25% off the regular price. Several of the games are as low as $9.95 each! If you're looking for action games like Platypus or GTS World Racing, strategy titles like Westward or Tradewinds 2, word games like Bubble Babble, or favorite classics like Astraware Sudoku - they're all included with special prices for a limited time! The Hot Summer Sale only lasts until midnight on 17th August, so make sure you don't miss out."

Astraware's Summer Sale is now on. The blurb says it all - at least 25% off 25 games, and there are some hot (no pun intended) titles on offer like Bejeweled 2, Cubis, Zuma, and Chuzzle. Of course, if you're in the southern hemisphere, something about this sale just seems so wrong, but that's not going to stop you from pocketing a good deal now, will it? ;)

Hexic for Windows Mobile Reviewed

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 05:00 AM

Product Category: Games
Manufacturer: Astraware
Where to Buy: MobiHand [Affiliate]
Price: $9.95
System Requirements: Windows Mobile Classic/Professional (Pocket PC) or Standard (Smartphone) device

Pros:
  • Addictive;
  • Multiple game modes;
  • Looks and feels just like the MSN Games and Xbox 360 versions.
Cons:
  • Lacks online leaderboards.

Summary:
Alexey Pajitnov knows how to turn any shape into an addictive puzzle game. Tetris, which needs no introduction, is a testament to that. So too is Hexic, which MSN Games and Xbox 360 gamers should be familiar with. For years, I searched high and low for a Windows Mobile version, but to no avail. Now, that search is over. Thanks to the combined efforts of Astraware and Carbonated Games, Hexic is available for all flavours of Windows Mobile, and it does not disappoint.
