More Details On The App Hub Enhancements

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 11:30 AM

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...month-away.aspx

"We know there's tremendous excitement among the developer community, with tens-of-thousands of you already using the beta tools and a significant increase in new developer registrations over the past couple of months. More importantly, we're hearing from you directly and learning about some of the new and creative ideas you're bringing to life through Mango. The combination of new platform capabilities such as multitasking and hardware accelerated IE9 with the new opportunities that come from our partnership with Nokia and expansion to twice as many consumer markets is attracting a new wave of Windows Phone developers. These are also some of the reasons that firms like Gartner are *forecasting end users open OS sales in excess of 600 million units by 2015 for Windows Phone."

Last week we had a link to a short posting about the App Hub enhancements for developers. The Read link below will send you over to The Windows Phone Developer Blog which goes into lots of detail about what is included in the enhancements. There are effectively three categories of enhancements: geographic expansion, new private distribution options, and enhanced application management. If you are already into Windows Phone 7 development, or are planning to get into it, then the linked posting has lots of useful information for you.

Microsoft App Hub Updated

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.wpcentral.com/apphub-re-...rts+(wpcentral)

For our developers our there, you may have noticed the Microsoft AppHub was down today for some maintenance which included the addition of "new features". The Hub came back up in the last hour and devs seem to be impressed with the changes:

  • Updated layout
  • New crash reports
  • Export of download/purchase details
  • Private beta Marketplace."

Developers will know that the App Hub website is exclusively for Windows Phone and Xbox LIVE Indie Games developers. It offers free tools, sample code, community support, and educational resources to help you develop your apps and games for Windows Phone and Xbox 360. The Hub was recently updated with some new features which I suspect developers will be happy to see.

Improved WP7 App Pricing For Australian Users

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2011/07...w-0-99-aud.html

"With the new App Hub launch there seems to be a better price structure for apps and games at least for Australian users. Kudos to Chris Walsh for the find. It seems $0.99 USD apps are now $0.99 AUD. Couple of days ago we talked about the pricing of Apps and Games on the Marketplace. We used to pay AU$1.18 ( roughly US$1.25 ) for a US$0.99 App but now it seems we have to pay only AU$0.99 ( US$1.05 ), which is awesome!!"

Our Australian friends may be seeing a nice nice development in WP7 app pricing. According to the linked article, prices are seeing a slight decrease. While not a huge savings, every bit helps. Comments posted on the article suggest price drops may also be occurring in other regions.

More Details on the App Hub for Developers

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone Developer" @ 07:30 AM

"This is also a big day for Windows Phone developers for a few reasons. By now we hope it's clear that your apps and games are central to the value we're offering end users with Windows Phone 7. We're taking every opportunity to demonstrate how the applications you are generating extend the new Windows Phone 7 experience. For example, starting today we are profiling Windows Phone 7 apps and games on the Windows Phone Blog and other social networks and properties, starting with BejeweledTM LIVE, an Xbox LIVE title, from PopCap Games. Check daily to see what's new between now and launch"

Developers ready to start promoting their apps can find more information on the App Hub in this Windows Phone Blog post. Take a look and start dazzling us with your creations!
