Toshiba Unveils TG01, Shows Off 4.1" WVGA Touch Screen and Snapdragon Chipset

Look out, HTC. Toshiba has something up its sleeve - that something is the TG01. Some standout features in this upcoming handset include a 4.1" WVGA (480 x 800) touch screen and Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset with a 1GHz core. It also sports 512MB ROM, a microSDHC slot, HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, a G-sensor, a virtual trackpad, out-of-the-box DivX support, and a custom touch-friendly GUI, which sits on top of Windows Mobile Professional. And if you think the TG01 looks slim, that's because it is. With a depth of just 9.9 mm or 0.39", it's thinner than the HTC Touch HD (12 mm or 0.47") and iPhone 3G (12.3 mm or 0.48"). See for yourself at Electricpig and Pocket-lint, and expect more details at MWC, which takes place in just under two weeks.

Marvell's PXA168 Capable of 1GHz+

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 10:30 AM

"Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), an industry leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today unveils the Marvell® PXA168, the first in a family of applications processors targeted at new mass market opportunities in computing and digital consumer devices with the potential to reach up to a billion units. The Marvell PXA168 is based on a new innovative architecture that delivers the processing capabilities of an entry-level laptop to instant-on, digital consumer devices by enabling full-featured web surfing, Internet widgets, multi-format video, Adobe Flash-based content playback, image processing, video conferencing and advanced graphical user interfaces (GUIs) - at consumer price points with ultra-low power for longer battery life. Incorporating Marvell Sheeva technology, this new class of applications processor is scalable beyond 1GHz to enable converged consumer devices."

ASUS may have packed an impressive PXA930 800MHz processor into its P565, but it's already looking a little feeble next to the PXA168, Marvell's newest kid on the block. The question is whether we'll see it in any of this year's Windows Mobile devices. Time will tell.
