Windows Mobile 6.1 Eye Candy
Posted by Paul Martin in "NEWS" @ 04:30 AM
"A Portuguese site published the first review of the still unannounced version 6.1 of Windows Mobile Professional OS. According to some sources, it will be officially unveiled at 3GSM convention in Barcelona (February 11-14). The new version of the system should be considered as minor improvement, instead of as the next-generation WM OS. This can be guessed by its model number which is 6.1 instead of 7. As it was with the version 6, compared to 5, the 6.1 is better optimized, which results in overall higher performance and faster loading of menus, with the hardware being unchanged. An improvement that will concern the Internet fans is the new Zoom feature in the Internet Explorer. Probably inspired by iPhone, the developers now offer “SMS Chat View Mode”. The mobile variant of Office is now updated to open Office 2007 files (.docx, .xlsx) and features one new application: One Note, which is used for voice recording, drawing, etc. Other changes are just minor."
Information about a Windows Mobile 6.1 release has been trickling out. Now a Portuguese site, Pocketpt.net, has lots of nice screen shots [with machine translation], highlighting the SMS Chat view Mode, new Getting Started options, Pocket Internet Explorer Zoom, a Managed Programs option, new Task Manager interface, and Office One Note. It's nice to see a few updates, especially since WM 7 is still about a year away. 8O
