TechFaith Wireless Offers First Dual SIM Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by Paul Martin in "HARDWARE" @ 08:01 PM
"Pocket PC Dubai reports today about a new TechFaith Wireless Windows Mobile smartphone which is quite unique (but it seems to become a new trend) by supporting two SIM cards in one device. According to Pocket PC Dubai, the new device, which is codenamed "Cynthia", will sports Windows Mobile 6 Professional, supports quad- or triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE (depending on the CPU) as well as Bluetooth 2.0, a 2 megapixel camera and 64 MB/256 MB ROM (again depending on the CPU version). What makes me kind of wonder is the time-line which says "working samples ready in April and release in July". Hey, we have October already and not a single indication of the Cynthia on the horizon."
For frequent travelers or users of multiple cellular providers, dual SIMS might really save some time (that and avoiding the possibility of losing the other SIM)! According to PocketPDDubai, i-mate may be one of the distributors. While they are behind the schedule listed in the above graphic, they have been busy with other dual-SIM phones, including the just-released Twins, which they describe as the first WCDMA/GSM Dual Mode Phone. Now, if they could just take some time to improve their smartphone lineup.
