HTC gains 14% of Japan's PDA Phone Market In Less Than A Year

"High Tech Computer (HTC) had 14% of the Japan PDA phone market in 2006 by shipping 70,000 units during the year, according to Japan-based Yano Research Institute. Although HTC's first PDA phone model series only had a sales volume of 70,000 in Japan, the company still had a strong share of the market since there are few PDA phones with QWERTY-standard keypads in the region, sources said."

We reported on the launch of Softbank's HTC Hermes variant, the X01HT, a few months back. Looks like it's been a runaway success, especially since it's up against more established competitors (in my weaker moments, I still lust after a Sharp WZero3). The brand confusion (HTC sells their own Hermes variant in Japan under the 'hTc Z' name) doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on sales thankfully. With the Japanese market as competitive as it is here's to hoping it'll force HTC to innovate even further, and give us more stuff to drool over.
