Beceem Announces World's First Mobile WiMAX Chipset
Posted by Darius Wey in "NEWS" @ 03:30 AM
"Beceem Communications, a leading provider of chipsets for the mobile broadband market today announced that it has just released the world's first terminal chipset implementing a feature set based entirely on the new IEEE 802.16e Mobile WiMAX standard. In so doing Beceem is the first to demonstrate and make available a commercial Mobile WiMAX/WiBro chipset solution that is suitable for mobile, portable and fixed applications. Beceem's MS120 Mobile WiMAX terminal solution contains: A digital baseband chip that includes the entire Physical Layer (PHY) and Media Access Control (MAC) functionality. An embedded RISC processor implements the MAC functionality thereby minimizing processing load on the host processor. An integrated radio chip (RF) designed for multi-band operation containing multiple transmit/receive chains thereby minimizing cost, foot print and power consumption for Mobile WiMAX implementations. A complete reference design kit for the "WiMAX Modem" including host driver software and RF calibration tools which will enable terminal OEMs and ODMs to quickly produce WiMAX compliant devices."
We've got the mobile chipset. Now all we need are the networks. Just a few more waits before we get to experience a new type of wireless broadband access. :)
