One for the Guys and Gals: The MDA Compact II
Posted by Darius Wey in "HARDWARE" @ 12:00 PM
"PDAs are great in theory, but in practice they're just another bit of tech for me to carry round in my bag. Having a bag full of gadgets and gizmos may be great in theory, but I just end up fretting about how much it would cost me all to replace when it inevitably gets swiped by some tech-loving thief, and by the end of my journey I'm a twitching, sweating ball of goggle-eyed paranoia. Still, I appreciate that most normal people don't carry around as much gear as I do, and if you rather fancy organising your life electronically, T-Mobile has produced a pink edition of the MDA Compact II, to go with the more sedate grey version. Don't expect this to be the most powerful PDA you've ever encountered - it's designed to be small and compact, not big and butch. Specs include 1.3 megapixel camera, 128MB memory and an SD Card slot, Windows Mobile 5.0, and around £140 price tag."
Most of you will recognise this as the well-known HTC Magician - but it's not. Rather, the T-Mobile MDA Compact II (also known as the HTC Charmer) includes a TI OMAP 850 200MHz processor, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS support, Bluetooth 1.2 (but sadly, no Wi-Fi), IrDA, a 2.8" QVGA (240 x 320) 65K-colour LCD, a 1.3-megapixel camera, an SDIO/SD/MMC slot, and Windows Mobile 5.0. Whether you fancy hot pink (above) or charcoal (not shown), the MDA Compact II is expected to be made available through select T-Mobile operators across Europe sometime this month.
