TomeRaider 3 Released
Posted by Pat Logsdon in "SOFTWARE" @ 09:00 AM
"TomeRaider 3 is the newest incarnation, a total rewrite that has been 2 years in the making. Check out these new features:"
• HTML Support: TR3 now supports HTML verbatim, making it even easier to make TR3 files.
• Image support: Now images from the small to the massive can be displayed in TR3 files. Its about time.
• The Filter Builder: Never before possible filters and queries can now be constructed by anyone.
• Search Acceleration: Searching even tens of megabytes is now faster than you thought was possible.
• Super Compression: TR2 was good, TR3 is even better. The files are smaller and they work faster.
TomeRaider is a database application wrapped in a document reader and built for speed. I used an older version of this program a few years ago, and while it was kinda neat, I never used it much, and finally uninstalled it. I recall fast searches but a rather clunky interface. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw when I installed the new version last night - the UI is clean and compact, ClearType is supported, and searches are blazin' fast.
The price is listed at $22.50, and there's a trial available that lets you read a few pages/perform a few searches before you get a nag screen and have to exit. Oh, and none of the old TomeRaider files will work with the new version - you'll have to download a trial of the Windows version and convert them one by one. Any TomeRaider users out there? Thoughts?
