Yet Another VoIP Client: Xten Softphone
Posted by Pat Logsdon in "SOFTWARE" @ 01:00 PM
"Xten, a provider of VoIP (Voice over IP) and Video over IP SIP softphones, today announced a new mobile IP communications effort www.VoIPmobility.com in concert with the release of their new Windows Mobile Pocket PC SIP softphone X-PRO v2.2 currently available from the VoIPmobility.com or Xten.com websites. This new wireless IP communications effort will leverage Xten's new mobile OS softphones and SDK development for VoIP, Video over IP, Instant Messaging and Presence awareness deployments on wireless networks."
I could have used a graphic of the actual product,
but since it looks the same as every other softphone inter-
face, here's a picture of a happy girl using the product.
Features include:
Hot 3 way calling action
Line Hold
Line Transfer
Caller ID [Via SIP]
SIP MD5 Authentication
Support for multiple SIP accounts
Touch Tones
Dial, Hang-up and Redial (<- It's a good thing THESE features are included! - ed)
Call Timer
Mute
Phone Book
Gee, do you think people see a future for VoIP? I'll bet you a shiny dollar that you won't be able to fling a cat at the upcoming CES without hitting a VoIP vendor. Not that I have anything against cats, mind you. At least, not much. Anyway, this is a NEW softphone client for the Pocket PC platform that can apparently do a lot and uses "leveraging" to find and use WiFi, VOIP, UMTS and EV-Dx VoIP networks. Aside from the fact that their new (Flash) site seems to equate usage of their softphone with some kind of divine rapture (complete with glowy white lights), this actually looks like it might have some interesting features. What do you think?
