MDC Highlights from 2003
Posted by Jason Dunn in "EVENT" @ 12:00 PM
MDC is coming up soon (the early-bird discount for saving $200 expires in a few days), so I thought it might be useful for some of you developers to see what went on there last year, and what sort of sessions they had. Microsoft put up five of the previous presentations for you to learn from - worth checking out!
"Check out the photos and session video clips from last year's event. Just click on the conference session links below to get a glimpse of what to expect. It was a lot of fun and this year's conference promises to be even better.
Compact Framework: Introduction to Smart Device Programming
The .NET Compact Framework is a small footprint, binary compatible version of the .NET Framework, designed for small mobile devices. The Compact Framework enables devices to interoperate easily with XML Web services, using the development productivity of Visual Studio .NET. This talk will provide an overview on the architecture and design of the Compact Framework, as well as more details on its functionality and usage. Learn how your skills in building Visual Studio .NET applications can now be applied to programming smart devices.
Pocket PC and Smartphone Development: Tools tips, Tricks and Best Practices
"This session will focus on tools, tips and tricks you can use to increase the efficiency of your development, deployment, and testing process of Pocket PC and Smartphone applications. We will focus on demonstrations of some key tools for enhancing your productivity, ranging from improvements to the device emulator, various configuration and automation tools, debugging techniques, as well as general tips, tricks and best practices for more efficient development."
Introduction to Smartphone Development
Want to get a taste of the Smartphone development platform? This session is for you! This session will provide information on how to write code for the telephony aspects a Smartphone device, an overview of Smartphone user interface, and a summary of the development tools available.
Developing Applications with SQL Server CE 2.0
See the new in features SQL Server CE Version 2.0--the compact mobile database for applications that extends enterprise data management and synchronization capabilities to mobile and embedded devices. This session will cover the prime scenarios for SQL Server CE, include real customer demonstrations, show integration of SQL Server CE into VS.NET tools, and discuss one customer's mechanism for deployment.
Windows CE.NET Advanced Memory Management
Knowing how the operating system works helps in all aspects of development from planning, development, and on to debugging. Learn how the Pocket PC and Smartphone manage memory, manage DLLS, and how operating system calls actually work in this deep look into the workings of the underlying operating system. This talk will cover the impact of the slot based memory model of Windows CE, how DLLs are positioned in memory and how this can effect your applications, and how the system manages to massage pointers to read into a calling process's memory space."
