Hey You Windows CE Old Timers!
Posted by Jason Dunn in "SITES & RESOURCES" @ 09:00 PM
Back in the days of yore, before the coming of the Pocket PC, I started up a little FAQ on the Velo 1 HPC, even before I owned the device. It cost me $1500 CAN to get one from the US. 8O That FAQ, and my participation in the Windows CE newsgroup, got me my MVP title, my first meeting with Microsoft, and the rest is history. I ended up launching a few mini Web sites (I really like launching new sites!), but eventually they became relics. I'm a big believer though in the importance of keeping content online and making the Internet an effective archive.
In light of that, I've taken all those old sites (Windows CE FAQ, Velo FAQ, Windows CE Wallpaper Emporium) and archived them under my jasondunn.com domain. If you want a walk down memory lane, go check them out. Remember they're archived - please don't email me about inaccurate information, broken links, etc. It's all frozen in time. Here's a golden oldy from the FAQ that gave me a good chuckle:
[Q:] Where is Excel for my Palm-size PC? Or Word?
[A:] Microsoft chose not to put Word or Excel on the Palm-size PC. There is no way to get it, no place to buy it, and no way to run it. If you need these applications, buy an HPC. You can try out bSquare's spreadsheet app here, and Z4Soft has another app here. If you get a new Pocket PC, Pocket Word and Pocket Excel are included.
